I'm missing LARP. I hate missing LARP. This is the first Moot I've missed since I started.

Unfortunatly I have to stay here and finish my 9th draft of my masters (yes, 9th draft I'm that bad a writer).

Zoe called me last night to let me in on everything I was missing. The DoB has done 9.5 ritual off the cuff and I wasn't there.

Anyway I hope they're having fun, with a little luck I'll be able to go to Moot 2.

A death in the family...mine!!! [Apr. 18th, 2007|01:58 pm]
Ok so this weekend I spent time with my beautiful, faithful, girlfriend. Upon which we discovered to our shock and horror that she wasn't invited to my cousins wedding. After a few minutes of not being terribly distraught about this I had to phone and tell my mother, in case we needed to change room bookings. However Mother was not happy at this and myself and Dad spent a half an hour talking her down. What annoys her was that at my brothers wedding she took special care to invite my cousins girlfriend. Unfortunatly my mother is as tactful as an Irish mother who feels she has been wronged, as blunt as a sledgehammer and not terribly forgiving.

So I curl up under my duvet and prepare for the shit storm of angry family members ready to kill me, for unlocking the beast.

I love you Mummy you rock...I just wish we were as ready to fight my corner as you are my girlfriends. Its hard not being the favourite.

MEME THING: Give me a cheap thrill

We all have things about our friends that make us slightly envious. Not in a bad way, but in a 'Wow! I wish I had that person's hair/eyes/money/relationship/toenails/wh
atever.'

So tell me what about me makes you envy me. . . then post this in your LJ and see what makes me envious of you.

Culturing [Jan. 31st, 2007|10:46 am]
[mood | nostalgic]

Zoe's attempts to culture me have been evident in the last few months.

Since December not including museums and art galleries I've been to...

Rocky Horror Picture Show: May I express how impressed I was with Janet's Rack. Lots of good clean fun.

The Merry Wives of Windsor: Groovy cast inculding Simon Callow and Judy Dench, lots of fun not too much Shakepeare. Who knew Alistair McGowan can sing.

Blasted: Shock theatre, you could tell it was written by a manic depressive who killed herself.

Cymbeline: Really well done, great music, wonderful set pieces. It's given me idea's of things to do in rituals.

Guys and Dolls: Rather enjoyable apart from the energy sucking, talentless, Nathan Detroit played by Don Jonson. If I went a month earlier I could have seen David Hasselhoff in the role, before him I could have seen Patrick Swayze. Patrick all is forgiven just don't ever let me watch that talentless hack again.

Exit Gary stage left humming -"Wouldn't it be lovely"

[Dec. 5th, 2006|04:01 pm]
Yesterday was a real ego enhancing day, my employers called and asked me nicely to come back to work. Its nice to feel wanted. So today I gave them in my documents for becoming staff again. Now I have a meeting tomarrow but its a paid meeting and they normally give me orange juice.

This will give me something to do as I scower for real jobs. My masters is with my superviser who has asked me not to send him anymore updates, as he can't keep up. That makes me laugh.

This weekend I'm off to see The Rocky Horror Show, fishnets and gold pants...awesome. Unfortunatly I don't have the legs to pull that off so I'm going to have to do something a little tamer. Woolly says he has a maids outfit I can borrow...there were just too many questions flooding into my mind to give him a coherent response

I finally got round to cleaning the house after the LARP event, hessian and laytex was everywhere, which is a bitch to get out of the carpet.

The cat is fine...despite my best efforts. Last night I attacked it with a larp safe axe, it was amused for a while.

The event has now been put to bed and I know I'm forgetting something but what can it be....oh yes my masters I knew there was something. However that's really boring so lets talk about the event.

It was nice when people said how organised we were...if only they kenw how much hair I pulled out of my scalp on firday alone. I few hick ups but all in all the feed back has been positive. A massive thank you goes out to all the great help from so many people. Rhys truly excelled himself, I have never seen him be so calm under pressure, no really that was calm for Rhys. Although at one point I had to gradually ease him into some bad news. Woolley was also on the ball although his sense of direction leaves something to be desired. I'm glad I left him a glow rod trail to follow. When we got back home we watched torchwood all the time lecturing the tv on the proper way to deal with fae.

Some of my favourite points was watching the spider baby and Tanya on a spike. Especially when the players had just left so myself and Rhys could laugh our asses off.

The players and monsters truly excelled themselves and made it all worth while.

I hurt my back just after the meteor strike when I heroically lost my footing, thanks to a few pain killers I was right as rain in the morning. I'm happy to one day do another event but not yet!!!!

I am a feather on the the wind [Oct. 30th, 2006|03:29 pm]
I'm currently doing the editing on my masters, the stress of turning my work into something sensible can sometimes be overwhelming but I endevour to continue.

"Stats need to be more visual less wordy" I do love the clincal approach my superviser takes to reviewing my work.

My life at the moment kind of goes like this: if not doing Masters I'm filling in forms or working on the November event while watching sitcoms. I've decided I really like making props, finally I've discovered something that combines my need for artistic expression and my love of cruelty to my fellow Larpers.

The house stinks of laytex and were just cramming more crap in every available spot. The cat has not been allowed in the living room for weeks, laytex and cat fur is a bad idea, even when she is being a little bitch. Woolley and I toyed with the idea of laytexing her claws to make her combat safe but stopped my when I started to make a latex colour mix that would match her fur tones.

This week I again take my girlfriend to see my parents and extended family. Much to her dismay I still have more family tucked away into various corners. You just can't beat the Catholic Irish breeeding programs for stupid amounts of family.

Than we are on the run up to the event, big nasty cretures daring fights and games of skill and cunning. We've got a good team behind us and the way we've pulled together to make this work has been awesome. Not to mention a cool monster crew. Although bureaucratical crap has popped its crappy head far too much I've still remain confident this will be a fun event. Stupid bureaurats telling me we can't set the monster crew on fire.

Sorry folks for the 2-3 people who'll actually read this I kinda jumped around a bit anyway I'll talk to you all soon.

CRAP!!!!! [Oct. 6th, 2006|01:46 pm]
I think I might have the freshers flu!!!! In these wonderful moments of stress and anxiety my immune system has dropped making me susceptible to the freshers flu. Dirty Students from across the world come here to make me sick...bastards!!!

On top of that I've lost a solid gold monster for the November Dragon's event. Damn you Ju, I hope Gandalf claws your eyeballs out, Like Emily tried to do to me last night...luckily I wear glasses

It's my first time [Oct. 3rd, 2006|01:53 pm]
This is my first ever journal entry. As most of you know I'm Gary, I live with Woolley and Woolley's clump of teeth, claws and fur otherwise known as Emily the cat. Emily hurts me but I assume its out of love.

Yesterday the very nice lady who is in control of my masters said I could get more time to finish my masters I politely declined her offer saying if you give me more time I'll just mess it away. Therefore I have one month to complete it, I'm hoping the deadline will focus me. It's nearly finished I just need a few thousand more words. I've spent today trying to make sense of my stats yet again. I've found two interesting confounding variables in my anlysis that mean yadda yadda yadda does anyone really care??? I can't decide if I'm a genius or an idiot. Considering some of the mistakes I've made in the past while, I'll go with idiot who is prone to a few sporadic moments of brilliance. Hopefully the brilliance will out weigh the idiot in the long run.

My masters is very complicated and based solely in research and I experimented on people using infra-red beams and visual spatial tests. In fact its so complicated I have no idea how to discuss it. The picture on this live journal is one that I designed for use in my experiments.

I've just come back from being in London this weekend having met with my wonderful, attractive and not in anyway pedantic girl friend. There I also met up with various friends of the Larping community, who I hate as they all have really cool jobs. From the comic book writer, to the special effects guy and the stunts person. So when I say "hate" I really mean my jealousy overwhelms me. My resentment peaked when Tony told me of the plane trip where himself and an artist named Mark Buckingham were stuck for so many hours. I met Mark Buckingham once....I had to wait for 3 hours in a queue to get him to draw me a picture and sign my Batman comic (he also did Sandman).

Well this was fun and kinda therapeutic, hopefully I'll be able to concentrate on my analysis of variance now (yawn).
